Baptisms and Christenings

We're delighted that you would like to know more about baptism or christenings at Christ Church, which are different names for the same service.

As Christians we believe that Jesus commands us to be baptised, as a sign of the promises God makes. That is, he promises forgiveness of our sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit to anyone who turns to him in faith. As a Church of England church we baptise (or christen) children and adults who come to faith later and have not previously been baptised.

There is a short preparation course for those asking to be baptised (or, in the case of children, their parents). Adults preparing for baptism often find it helpful to join an Alpha or Christianity Explored course to deepen their faith at the same time.

If you would like a way of saying 'thank you' to God for your child, but do not feel able to make the promises in the baptism service, we also offer a Service of Thanksgiving. Details of both services can be discussed with you as you make your choice.

Baptisms and Thanksgivings usually take place during our 10.00am services, on the 3rd or 5th Sundays of the month.
