Frontline Sundays

Living your life, making a difference

We are the church in mission – gathered and scattered – and we make all the difference in the world. The church is a body of people living a rhythm of gathering and scattering; usually gathering on Sunday and scattering for the rest of the week. Despite being a minority, Christians make all the difference in the world for Christ – wherever they are, whatever they do, whoever they are – Monday through Saturday. To grow as disciples for these frontlines, we need one another; we need to be together as a worshipping community, we need to encourage one another to serve Christ day by day and week by week, from Gathered to Scattered to Gathered.

Jesus’ followers are to be different, different from the religious, the secular, the worldly and the worldly-wise. Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” (Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5 to 7) is universally recognised as of the highest ethical and spiritual teaching, even other faith leaders discern its power to change communities. It’s a Christian value-system, ethical standard, religious devotion, covering attitudes to money, lifestyle and relationships. Lived out fully it’s counter-cultural and profoundly attractive. We need to hear these words, let them shape us, so that we may shape the world.
