Helping Hands DayOn Saturday 17th August from 9am-4pm we will be holding a Helping Hands Day. Sign up for when you can join us or just turn up even for a short clean, 'many hands make light work'! All ages very welcome!
News about “Let this be the final” Gift Day – On 1st August 2019, our Treasurer, Ruth, advised Richard that the full outstanding £70,000 has been donated. The funds for the Halls Redevelopment are achieved, assuming those who have pledged further donations continue to fulfil those pledges. The cost of £2.47 million is covered; the final bills will be paid this autumn and next spring, in accordance with the contract.
Foodbank current urgent needs: long life fruit juice; tinned vegetables, spaghetti & fruit; rice 1kg; jars of pasta sauce; tin openers, cleaning spray & washing-up liquid.
Other church activities
Help needed with our children's work – We need volunteers to help with setting up & putting away toddler toys on term time Friday mornings, serving local young mums/carers. If you're free and able to help with this please contact Mhairi Brown.
We also need help with our Little Fishes baby (up to 12 months) group which runs midweek. Please speak to Mhairi Brown or Becky Guynn.
Open The Book Holiday Club - Wednesday to Friday 28th-30th August, 10am-2pm: three-day holiday club based on the Open The Book style of storytelling. Places for the holiday club are still available - book your child’s place TODAY.
"Messy Family Fun" Help needed Jobs available - help to set up/set down, general helpers, food preparation etc. Session will run 11.00am-1.00pm on: Wednesday 14th August. For more information, offers of help to Becky Guynn.
Bike n' Hike 2019 This annual event in aid of the Beds and Herts Historic Churches Trust takes place on Saturday 14th September. If you would like to join Richard on bikes – you can also walk/drive – please speak to him. Sponsorship is for the number of churches you visit between 9am and 5pm on that day. Malawi 2020 & 2021 Plans for future visits to Home of Hope are under way: Adults in 2020, and Teens in 2021. Speak to Alex Mnatzaganian and then find out more by coming to an information meeting 3.30-5pm on Sunday October 6th in church.
Confirmation (and/or Baptism) – our next such service is Sunday 24th November at 10am with Bishop Michael. This is a great opportunity to affirm publicly your faith. Anyone interested in exploring Confirmation (and/or Baptism), please speak to Richard Hibbert. Opportunities to discuss faith, God and Confirmation will be Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9pm, beginning 17th September.
Spring Harvest 2020 Richard and Sarah Hibbert, and others are going to Minehead 2 from 13th-17th April 2020 and are looking for more people to join them. Please let Richard know ASAP if interested. (Spaces for couples/singles in shared accommodation available) Early bird booking rates for Minehead 2 are available until 30th September.
Alpha – Next course starts Tuesday 1st October at 7.30pm. Alpha explores the meaning of life over 10 weeks, whilst finding out about Jesus and the Christian faith. Topics include: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? Does God guide? How do I read the Bible? Each session involves refreshments, a talk and discussion. Is this for you or for a friend/neighbour? Invitation cards are available in church and in The Hub.
4 Counties Ministry Training Course (4CMTC) This year long course (30 weeks) will be taking place at Christ Church on Thursdays (10.30am-4.30pm) from September. Cost £200 per term. The course aims to equip Christians across Herts, Beds, Bucks & Northants with high quality Biblical teaching for all who want to be better equipped to serve the gospel in their churches and everyday front-lines. The Course covers the whole Bible in good detail, together with important doctrines and practical pastoral work. This is a great way to deepen and strengthen your Bible knowledge and learn to apply it. Former students include: Sidney Miller and AJ Wade. Brochures: back of church / in the Hub.
