Church Family News  

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the service for Bishop Richard Inwood a welcoming and joyful occasion; it was really appreciated by those attending.

Christian Aid Week 12th-18th MayHuge thank you to everyone who has already given to Christian Aid by sponsoring the ‘Guynn girls’ abseil: they have raised £474 so far.  Christian Aid envelopesare available to use this week or return next Sunday, when there will also be a cake sale after the 10am service.


PCC News – financial concerns and mission imperatives

£70,000 – this is the final sum needed to pay for the new church halls. There will be a Gift Day on Sunday 9th June to complete this fund-raising and look forward to their use.

2019 income increase to cover budgeted expenditure. Richard was encouraged to write to all on the new Electoral Roll, inviting them either to review their giving to Christ Church if a present donor, or to prayerfully take up the joy of giving to God’s work among us if not a present donor. The PCC are aware of the need to know our increased giving by its next meeting (4th July).

Welcoming the next generation. PCC discussed at length the desire to continue welcoming young families and young people to the family of Christ Church.

Alpha Course

Still a good week to join. This term’s Alpha continues Tuesday 14May @ 7.30-9pm (Rm 1)

Alpha explores the meaning of life over 10 weeks, whilst finding out about Jesus and the Christian faith.

Topics include: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? Does God guide? How do I read the Bible?

Each session involves refreshments, a talk and discussion. Is this for you or for a friend/neighbour?

Hawking, Dawkins and God:  Science and Religion in Contemporary CultureSt Albans Cathedral are hosting a lecture on 7.30 pm 10th July in which Professor David Wilkinson reflects on the current situation of science and faith and suggests ways forward for education, apologetics and Christian mission. If you would like to go, please see Michael Bishop or Alan Cottenden. 

Weekend accommodation for guests of the Alozie family 24-25 May   If you can offer a bed for the weekend to an Alozie guest or two, please contact Jude Hamilton.  It would be wonderful to be able to offer a warm welcome to our visitors.

Exams If you (or your parents) would like forthcoming exams prayed for, please do forward the timetables to Judy Miller and each exam will be prayed for.

St Albans Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship conference – St Albans DEF annual conference will be addressed by Rev Lee Gatiss, Director Church Society.  His title is Fight Valiantly - Contending for the Faith: in the Bible and Today and he will look at how we can 'guard the Gospel' in today's church and society.  The conference is Wednesday 22nd May 10:30-2:30pm, tickets are £13, more info from the poster. Join Richard and others to hear this great speaker/teacher.

In the ArenaThurs 13th June – 7.30pm in Cambridge. Evening Conference to equip men for life’s challenges. Excellent opportunity to explore how God strengthens and equips you for running the race. £7. More info from John Betteley or Richard Hibbert.

Home Groups The Sunday sermon series always bears further discussion. Home groups are following the series and have vacancies if you would like to join in the discussion, contact Susan Mountford. 

The Rapid Response Freezer (situated in the church kitchen) is up and running, and fully stocked with meals, all provided by willing church members. It is available for anyone who would value a prepared meal at short notice.  For more information, please contact Fiona Betteley or Laura Jewell, who can also provide you with the necessary food hygiene information etc., if you would like to be part of the team who provides these meals.
