Congratulations to Jon and Jane Day on becoming grandparents to Clara Ruth Bradley born on Monday 22nd October weighing 7 lbs.  A daughter for our mission partner Beth and her husband Jordan.

Parents and Carers of children at church – Please remember that responsibility for your children after the service ends immediately passes to you from the Children’s Ministry team. Please persuade them not to go upstairs, where fewer adults watch out for them.

The Church Office is now back on site, emails are working well and we hope to have the telephone number working shortly.  The postal address of the Church Centre is Christ Church, 140 Dudley Street, Bedford, MK40 3SX. 

Car Park The church car park in Dudley Street has been surfaced and is available for use. Please continue to park in the school car park at 10am, if you are able, leaving the car park free for those who need short walk access to the church.

Heating in the main church – New heating has been installed, but will be commissioned next week. PLEASE WEAR WARM CLOTHES THIS SUNDAY – hopefully for the last time!

Light Party In church 31st Oct 4.30-6.30pm

Light Party A great party to celebrate Jesus with food, games, craft and so much more.  No need to book just come along on the day. Help is required to man activities, serve refreshments, chat to families and tidy up afterwards. If you can help please let Jen McAdam, Gillian Lindley or Becky Guynn. Thank you.

Wanted: empty and clean plastic milk bottles and glass jars with the labels removed please to use for Light Party craft activities. There will be a box at the back of church for you to put them in or give them directly to Jen, Gillian or Becky. Thank you.

Go4Gold Friday 2nd November 2-4pm Meant to Be! John Pestell…shares about the work and history of Pilgrims’ Friends Society and Dorothea Court.  All welcome.

Ladies Day ... Light of the World - Saturday 3rd November 9.30am-4pm at Christ Church. Worship, word, music & prayer: a time of fellowship & refreshment. Guest speaker—Revd Fiona Gibson; seminars & workshops, crafts, books & cards, bring clothes & accessories to swap for charity.  Drinks provided throughout the day, bring your own packed lunch! (Suggested donation of £5.00 on the day).  To help with arrangements please sign up or just turn up on the day. Ladies of all ages very welcome, bring friends!

Christmas Open Evenings at The Word and The Jaffa.  At The Word there will be displays of Christmas cards & calendars and Christmas gifts, books, CDs, DVDs, mugs, prints and journals for sale.  Thursday 8th November 5-7pm (Local crafts at Jaffa) Wednesday 14th November 7-9pm (Coffee & cake at Jaffa for £3.50) Tuesday 27th November 7-9pm (coffee and cake at Jaffa for £3.50).  All welcome on your own or in a group.  If coming as a group please let Joy at The Word know approximate numbers in advance.A

Lunch Club Christmas LunchTuesday 11th December, 12.45pm. If you, a relative, friend or neighbour, would like to come along to our Christmas Lunch for seniors, £8 for a wonderful Christmas lunch, buy your ticket from the Church Office: only ten tickets left.

Malawi Orphan Fund are looking for a new treasurer & gift aid person.  Are you financially minded or have accounting experience? A full hand over will take place from the current Treasurer. Bedford Foodbank help needed in Logistics of delivering and collecting from Christ Church on Tuesdays between Noon and 4pm approx. This involves driving a 3.5tonne van from the warehouse in Manton Heights and unloading at CCB.  Full training for driving, lifting and moving the loads. Flexible volunteering throughout, including lifting/not lifting. “This is a great way to serve the local community who are struggling with life challenges and need short term help” Nigel Greenslade has more details – see him on Sunday. 

Bedford Foodbank – Specific food requests:Jars of Pasta Sauce, 250g/500g rice, teabags (40s/80s), jam, cup a soup, long life fruit juice, UHT milk, tinned vegetables/fruit/tuna/casseroles/stews/spaghetti/ rice pudding. Please place items in the Foodbank collection box in The Hub (by the refreshment area).

Men's Breakfast - Saturday 24th November 2018

Men's Breakfast is on Saturday 24th November at 9:00am  meeting at Christ Church.  Please note the new time and venue.  We should conclude at 10:30am 

£ 3.00 gets you cereal, orange juice, bacon and egg bap and toast and jam with coffee/tea .

We hope you can join us.  This week we will be looking at Christian Groups in the Workplace.  It is also suitable for those of us no longer working so please come along.


Men's Social - Rugby 8th December 2018

Meet at the Three Cups (45 Newnham Street) on Saturday 8th December any time from 12:30pm (food is available if required).  Leave at 2:30pm to make way to the ground on Goldington Road for 3pm kick off for the cup match against Cornish Pirates.  Meet up with others going straight to the match, near the goalposts nearest the entrance to the ground.  Please purchase your own ticket and collect in advance or on the day.  Tickets can be purchased online (see http://www.bedfordrugby.co.uk/tickets).  Hope to see you there.  Many people have already expressed interest in attending so should be a good afternoon out.  No need to say you are coming just turn up.

Music for Remembrance

Bedford based Chamber choir 'Cantamus' perform a truly sensitive programme of choral music to lift your spirits or aid you in your grief at this time of remembrance for lost loved ones.
Paul Edwards will conduct the choir at St Owen's church, Bromham, Tuesday 13 November, 7.45 pm and at Christ Church, Bedford on Sunday 18 November, 3.15 pm. Tickets £7.50 at the door. Organist Ian Runnells. 

An extensive range of short compositions include pieces by 16th century William Byrd (for Elizabeth I), 18th century J S Bach, and James Nares (The Souls of the Righteous), 19th century Brahms (O Heart subdued with grieving) and Mendelssohn (For he shall give his angels charge over thee, from his 'Elijah'), 20th century Hubert Parry (Songs of Farewell-selection) and Edward Bainton (And I saw a new heaven), 21st century Paul Edwards (For the Fallen).
