Halls Redevelopment

Access this Sunday – after the services, refreshments will be served in The Hub (you don't need to bring your own mug), and you are welcome to walk round the new halls, mindful that there is still internal finalising work to be completed. Our hirers have been pleased with the new spaces. Many thanks to Laura Turpie and Jude Hamilton for inducting old existing and new hirers into the halls.

Our Grand Celebration and Opening is Sunday 23rd September, with Bishop Alan joining us for the 10am service and VIPs coming to our ‘ribbon cutting’ at 12.15pm.

Help needed – temporary additional voluntary help with cleaning the new halls from now till 31st October. Please contact Rachel Bennett asap so a rota can be set up.

Church Office – remains off-site at 2 Abrahams Close for the time being.

Greenery for Grand Celebration weekend decorating – If you have any spare foliage in your garden which you could donate, the flower arranging team would love to receive it between 9 and 10 am on Saturday 22nd September. Info: Ruth Templeman

Confirmation (and/or Baptism) – our next such service is Sunday 25th November at 6.30pm with Bishop Michael. This is a great opportunity to affirm publicly your faith. Anyone interested in exploring Confirmation (and/or Baptism), please speak to Richard Hibbert ASAP. There are 7 preparation meetings, exploring Christian faith and practice, from Sunday 30th September – 4.30-6pm.

Wanted: washing up liquid University of Bedfordshire CU are running a promotion project for students. Free gifts of washing up liquid with CU branding and info will be given to every flat on campus!  Please donate washing up liquid as you are able; leave in box at church; for more info contact AJ Wade

Malawi Car Wash Sunday 30th September 9:30 - Noon Tickets on sale now £5 Venue: Castle Newnham School Goldington Road, Bedford MK40 3EP This is a fundraiser to help send the teens out to Malawi in the summer of 2019.  For more information contact Tracey Emmott or AJ Wade or speak to one of the Malawi Team.

Sunday 7th October – Harvest Sunday

We will be supporting the Bishop of St Albans’ Harvest Appeal, Give Peas a Chance, helping farmers in Malawi turn peas into profit – a great way to support Malawians.

Harvest decorating on Saturday 6th October, again between 9 and 10 am. For Harvest we are also asking for donations of fresh fruit and vegetables plus tinned/packeted foods which will be donated to Food Bank after the Harvest weekend. Thank you! Please contact Ruth Templeman with any queries.

Alpha next course starts on Tuesday 2nd October in Christ Church Halls with light refreshments.  Alpha explores the meaning of life over 10 weeks, whilst finding out about Jesus and the Christian faith. Topics include: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? Does God guide? Is this for you this autumn or for a friend/neighbour?

Bedford Foodbank We have had a specific request this week forJars of Pasta Sauce 250g/500g rice, teabags (80s), tinned vegetables / fruit / tuna / chicken meat. Please place items in the Foodbank collection box in The Hub (by the refreshment area).

New Wine United 2019: This family conference sees Christians from all over the country gather to celebrate God, encounter Him afresh together and take His blessings back to local churches and communities. There is great worship, an excellent programme of seminars and talks and lively entertainment, activities and groups for all children and young people. Men's Breakfast - Saturday 24th November 2018

Men's Breakfast is on Saturday 24th November at 9:00am  meeting at Christ Church.  Please note the new time and venue.  We should conclude at 10:30am 

£ 3.00 gets you cereal, orange juice, bacon and egg bap and toast and jam with coffee/tea .

We hope you can join us.  This week we will be looking at Christian Groups in the Workplace.  It is also suitable for those of us no longer working so please come along.

 

Men's Social - Rugby 8th December 2018

Meet at the Three Cups (45 Newnham Street) on Saturday 8th December any time from 12:30pm (food is available if required).  Leave at 2:30pm to make way to the ground on Goldington Road for 3pm kick off for the cup match against Cornish Pirates.  Meet up with others going straight to the match, near the goalposts nearest the entrance to the ground.  Please purchase your own ticket and collect in advance or on the day.  Tickets can be purchased online (see http://www.bedfordrugby.co.uk/tickets).  Hope to see you there.  Many people have already expressed interest in attending so should be a good afternoon out.  No need to say you are coming just turn up.

Music for Remembrance

Bedford based Chamber choir 'Cantamus' perform a truly sensitive programme of choral music to lift your spirits or aid you in your grief at this time of remembrance for lost loved ones.
Paul Edwards will conduct the choir at St Owen's church, Bromham, Tuesday 13 November, 7.45 pm and at Christ Church, Bedford on Sunday 18 November, 3.15 pm. Tickets £7.50 at the door. Organist Ian Runnells. 

An extensive range of short compositions include pieces by 16th century William Byrd (for Elizabeth I), 18th century J S Bach, and James Nares (The Souls of the Righteous), 19th century Brahms (O Heart subdued with grieving) and Mendelssohn (For he shall give his angels charge over thee, from his 'Elijah'), 20th century Hubert Parry (Songs of Farewell-selection) and Edward Bainton (And I saw a new heaven), 21st century Paul Edwards (For the Fallen).
