Church Family News

New Sermon Series –Sunday mornings/Home Group studies on HOT TOPICS: those hard to get your head round matters. Sunday evenings on the always practical and rather hard-hitting Letter of James. Prepare to be challenged and encouraged.

Donation Day - Thank you to all who have been able to give/pledge so far. Praise God for what has been given so far (latest total £110,500) and pray the final balance is received soon, so that we no longer need to look back to paying for the construction, but can look forward to using these new halls and rooms for God's good purposes among us and our local community.

If you are able to help financially, please place ASAP your completed form in a sealed envelope, marked HRV, in the large Collection Box on arrival at church, or drop through Vicarage letterbox (115 Denmark Street).


Halls Redevelopment Update Weather permitting, external work continues next week. Internally, lots of detailed work being done. Completion is delayed and our contractors are seeking ways of minimising further delays.

For your diary this week

Sew for Malawi Saturday 28th April 2-5pm in church: sewing items to take to The Home of Hope Orphanage in Malawi - no experience needed. Please bring sewing machine if you have one.  If anyone has any unwanted flannelette sheets, including cot sheets, they would be willing to donate to the project please pass them onto Gillian Lindley or Jo Addis.

Study the Gospels with others - GOLD course at Maulden - The next GOLD (Group-Based Open Learning Discipleship) course begins this Tuesday 24th April at 7.30pm at The Rectory, Clophill Road, Maulden, Beds MK45 2AA. Studying The Gospels of Matthew and Mark, cost £50.  Sessions on 24/4, 8/5, 22/5, 5/6, 26/6 and 10/7. The course is especially helpful to those who are exploring a Vocation to Ministry both Lay and Ordained. More info: from Richard Janes

Men's Breakfast 28th April: 8.30am in Fay’s Café in Riverside Tennis Club opposite CCB. Cost £3.50 for Bacon & Egg bap plus hot drink. Speaker: Christian surgeon shares what it means to be a Whole-Life Disciple at Bedford Hospital.

Men’s Breakfast questionnaire Help us develop and resource a flourishing ministry to and among men at Christ Church and beyond. Questionnaires have been emailed but if you require a paper copy, they are available at the back of the Church. Please return completed paper forms to David Gundry. Thank you. 

Events coming up soon

Vision Day Part of the vision of St Albans Diocese is to reach new people and to grow flourishing Christ-centred churches. To learn more, join in the Vision Day on Saturday 12th May at Rothamsted Conference Centre, Harpenden from 9.30am-1.30pm (including a free lunch) - see flyer at back of church for more details and how to book a place.

St Albans Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship conference

The St Albans DEF annual conference will be addressed by Rev Lis Goddard, Vicar of St James the Less Pimlico, and chair of the AWESOME Network.  She will speak on churches working together in mission and outreach, using 1 Corinthians 3 as a model.  The conference is Tuesday 15th May 10:30-2:30pm, tickets are £13, more info from Paul Boulter.

North Wales Holiday How about joining the 5 day/4 night Church holiday with Richard and Sarah Hibbert in North Wales – spaces available in neighbouring hotel – travelling by comfortable coach. Monday 2nd - Friday 6th July. Please do think of coming with us. More information, booking forms etc through Rachel Bennett.

New Alpha Course starts – Tuesday 1st May at 2 Abrahams Close with light refreshments. All welcome to explore who and what Jesus is for today.

Alpha explores the meaning of life over the autumn term, whilst finding out about Jesus and the Christian faith. Topics include: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? Does God guide? How do I read the Bible? Each session involves refreshments, a talk & discussion. Is this for you this autumn or for a friend/neighbour? Simon Burns is running the London Marathon today in aid of Ormiston families. He writes, "They are a charity that supports families who have loved ones in prison. We need to find help for the Maintenance of Christ Church Bedford website: Uploading of event adverts, Life magazine & slideshow photographs, and some content updating is required.
