Church Family News

Welcome to Stella Peduto her family and friends as she is welcomed into God’s family through her baptism and christening.

Holiday at Home received £358 from the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme

Harvest we are celebrating Harvest on Sunday 1st October.  Collection is for EpiscoCare for the work of Archbishop Mouneer and the Diocese of Egypt in supporting refugee families and fresh, tinned and packet foods for Bedford Foodbank.  Stay after the 10am service to learn about EpiscoCare and then enjoy some 'Cup a soup' and bread.  Bring your own mug!

Children’s groups on Sundays

Children's/youth groups will be in the following locations: Crèche @ Vicarage; Explorers/Passports @ Riverside Tennis Club; J team (RS2) @ 113 Denmark Street; Edge (RS3) (2nd & 4th Sundays) @ 2 Abrahams Close.

 

Alpha Courseexploring the meaning of life & the person of Jesus 2 VENUES / 2 EVENINGS

- from Tuesday 19th Sept @ 7pm, at the puddin club, Castle Road – with light refreshments

- from Wednesday 20th Sept @ 7pm at 37, Harrold Priory (off Riverfield Dr) – with 2 course meal

Alpha explores the meaning of life over the autumn term, finding out about following Jesus. Topics include: Who is Jesus? Why did he die? How do I pray? Each session involves refreshments, a talk & discussion. Invitation cards now available from the back of church.

Coming up soon events and notices

Confirmation (and/or Baptism) – our next service is Sunday 26th November at 6.30pm with Bp Richard. Anyone interested please speak to Paul Boulter. There are 7 preparation meetings, exploring Christian faith and practice, from Sunday 1st October – 4.30-6pm at 2 Abrahams Close.

Parenting Children 0-10 years Course

Children don’t come with a manual – but help is at hand!  The Course is run by Steve and Katherine Davies and is based on the HTB course to equip parents with skills for everyday life. It runs weekly from Monday 25th September to Monday 4th December 2017 with a half-term break.  7pm to 9.30pm with supper provided for a small donation.  More info from Katherine Davies

One Week 'Wild' in Wilstead Woods Gareth Wilcox will be raising money for the Halls Redevelopment by an outdoor survival challenge. Supported by Fanie Lessing, Gareth will be camping in Wilstead Woods for 7 nights from 16th - 22nd September, with solitude, Bible reading and prayer. Please sponsor Gareth if you can.

Apples in the Orchard – family fun afternoon

To mark the beginning of Autumn, we are holding a family fun afternoon in the Orchard in Devon Park (off Seaton Drive/Dawlish Drive) on Sunday 24th September 3-5pm.  There’ll be a bouncy castle, brass band, apple-themed games and refreshments.  Please sign-up to help on a Sunday, or speak to Judy Miller.

Ladies Weekend Away 2017 Friday 20th - Sunday 22th October at The Garden Room, Stamford.  Ladies please pay your deposits and if possible the balance by 23rd September.  Thank you.

The Marriage Course

Do you wish to invest in your marriage?  Nigel & Lesley Greenslade (5 Selsey Way) are hosting the Marriage Course, starting Thursday 5th October at 7:00pm with a meal, before video input video and then discussion in couples.  Couples spend time discussing issues like communication, finances and resolving conflict.  Please contact Nigel & Lesley or speak to Paul Boulter.

Getting Your Kids Through Church - Without Then Ending Up Hating God Course

Worried about your children’s faith?  Claire Broughton-Welsh is hosting a course aimed at parents from Care for the Family.  Over 8 sessions it will look at issues around stages of faith, belonging, and creating a welcoming church and family environment.  Starts on Thursday 5th October at 7:30pm at 13 Tiverton Road.  Please contact Claire for more details.

Malawi 2019 Teens Trip For those interested in travelling to Home of Hope, Malawi in the summer of 2019 there is a meeting in church for teens who will be 16+ in Aug 2019, their parents, and those interested in helping to lead this trip on Sunday Oct 15th, 3pm to 4.30pm  Questions? Contact Alex Mnatzaganian. 

Open the Book – Help!  Can you help the Open the Book team visit Castle Newnham School (South Site)?  Dates are 22nd Sept, 13th Oct and 24th Nov from 9-9.20am.  New members urgently required.  For info please speak to Graham Thomson or Becky Guynn.

Gospel of John Course A fortnightly study in John’s Gospel led by by Rev Lynda Klimas and Richard Janes. It starts on Tuesday 3rd October at 7.30pm at Maulden costing £50 (bursaries available). For more information please see www.goldproject.org or Richard Janes.
